your place for friends, family and faith

Matt Lotspeich

What does your ministry involve?

My ministry mission statement is to “Glorify God by maturing, matriculating, and multiplying disciples for Christ”.  We mature disciples through small groups such as Sunday School and Wednesday night electives.  We matriculate disciples of Christ by plugging them into a ministry where they get to use their spiritual gifts, natural talents, and passions.  We seek to multiply disciples by sharing the Gospel from our family tables all the way to the farthest ends of the earth.  We go out and visit people on Sundays and we take numerous multi-layered mission trips throughout the year.

What is your passion or goal for ministry?
My philosophy of ministry is "Live a life of integrity that is above reproach and work with a disciplined vision in the power of the Holy Spirit to make disciples for the Lord Jesus Christ by sharing His gospel and teaching His infallible, totally trustworthy, and sufficient Word." In doing so, the goal of maturing, matriculating, and multiplying disciples will be achieved. It is important that my first focus be on my love for and walk with God and not ministry.
How long have you been involved here?
I have been serving God through Jasper’s First Baptist Church since August 2010.
What attracted you to JFBC?
The Holy Spirit of God never let this church or town out of my mind. I heard about this ministry opportunity through a friend of Pastor Dennis Culbreth. After visiting JFBC, my wife Lindsey and I were drawn to the graciousness and genuineness of the people. Already knowing the inward call of God, it was great to see God be faithful by confirming His call outwardly through this local body of believers as well.
Tell us a little bit about your family?
My beautiful bride Lindsey and I wed on August 01, 2009. The marriage ceremony took place a few miles outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. Lindsey is from Raleigh and we met there through the College and Singles ministry of our local church. Lindsey and I have two children.  Samuel was born in January of 2016.  Our daughter Barker was born in February of 2017.  We are very blessed and a little stressed!
What is your preparation and background for ministry?
I graduated from Shorter University in Rome, Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Communications Leadership. Previously, I was a History Major. However, God led me to change my major after accepting the call to the ministry in 2004. Directly following Shorter, I attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. While at Southeastern, I graduated with a Master of Divinity in Christian Ministry while extensively studying biblical counseling.  I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian Leadership from SEBTS.
What do you enjoy doing outside of church?
I enjoy working out and walking the neighborhood with my wife and children. Sporting events are always fun to go to.  I also enjoy hiking and camping when I get the opportunity.
